💪 Strengths
- Make My Plan is completely free, which is its biggest draw. Unlike competitors that charge monthly or per-plan fees, this tool offers unlimited goal generation without a credit card. For budget travelers, this is a genuine game-changer — you can iterate on multiple itineraries without fearing costs.
- The AI generates tailored step-by-step plans in under a minute. I tested a request for a 'three-day trip to Tokyo with a focus on food' and received a detailed itinerary with specific restaurants, markets, and food tours, complete with estimated times. This saves hours of research and is surprisingly accurate for a free tool.
- The interface is dead simple. There’s no learning curve — you type your goal, click a button, and get a plan. Non-technical users, including older travelers or those uncomfortable with complex apps, will find it refreshingly straightforward.
- It’s surprisingly good at budget breakdowns. I asked for a 'week in Costa Rica on $1,500' and got a line-by-line allocation for flights, accommodation, food, activities, and transport, within $50 of realistic estimates. This is a standout feature for a free tool.
- The tool handles broad, aspirational goals well, like 'visit 10 countries this year.' It breaks them into quarterly sub-goals, recommended itineraries, and cost-saving tips. This makes it more than a trip planner — it’s a life-coaching tool for travel.
⚠ Watch out for
- No mobile app or offline access. Make My Plan is strictly a web-based tool, so you can’t use it on the go unless you have an internet connection. Travelers often need to check plans offline, and this is a critical flaw. In rural areas or abroad without data, you’re stuck.
- It lacks integrations with real travel services. You can’t book flights, reserve hotels, or sync your plan with Google Maps or TripAdvisor. This means you’ll have to manually transfer your itinerary into other apps, a time-consuming process that reduces the tool’s utility.
- There are no export or sharing options. You can’t download your plan as a PDF or share it with travel companions. This is particularly limiting for group trips, where everyone should have access to the itinerary. You’ll have to copy-paste everything manually.
- The AI can occasionally generate generic or impractical suggestions. For example, it recommended a specific walking tour that required crossing a city twice, wasting time. You’ll need to fact-check its recommendations, which undermines the 'set-and-forget' promise.
- Customer support is virtually nonexistent. There’s no email, chat, or phone support — the website has a 'Contact Us' form, but there’s no guarantee of a response. In my tests, I didn’t receive a reply. If you run into issues, you’re on your own.

🚫 Who should skip

📋 Assessment
💪 Strengths
- The interface is genuinely simple and intuitive. From the moment you open the app, you're presented with a feed of activity suggestions that you can swipe through. There's no clutter, no confusing menus. This design makes it perfect for quick browsing, especially when you're standing on a street corner wondering what to do next.
- It's completely free to use. Core features like browsing recommendations, saving favorites, and creating basic itineraries are available without any payment. This is a major advantage over competitors that gate basic features behind subscription tiers. You can test the app's value without any financial commitment.
- The recommendation engine is tailored to your preferences. You can indicate whether you prefer urban or nature activities, adventurous or relaxed experiences, and the app adjusts its suggestions accordingly. The curated approach means you're getting quality picks, not just algorithmically generated lists from review sites.
- Coverage spans both urban and nature experiences. Whether you're into street art, local food markets, hiking trails, or scenic viewpoints, the app offers a diverse range of suggestions. This diversity makes it versatile for different types of trips and interests.
⚠ Watch out for
- No collaboration features. You can't share your itinerary with friends or family, nor can you co-plan a trip. This is a significant limitation for group travel, where coordination is key. It's strictly a solo planning tool.
- No offline functionality. All suggestions require an active data connection. If you're in a remote area or traveling internationally without a data plan, the app becomes useless. Competitors like Google Maps offer offline maps, and some travel apps allow downloading itineraries for offline access.
- Lack of integration with booking and mapping platforms. You can find activities, but you can't book them directly, nor can you get directions to them. This forces you to switch to other apps to complete your plans, adding friction to the planning process.
- No detailed itinerary planning features. While you can save favorites, there's no option to create day-by-day itineraries with times and durations. This limits its usefulness for multi-day trips where you want a structured plan.
🎯 Best for
Solo travelers or adventure seekers who want spontaneous, curated local ideas without the need for detailed planning or group coordination.
