💪 Strengths
- The free tier is genuinely free with no credit card required. This allows you to test the quality of the AI-generated headshots without any risk, which is a rare advantage in the AI avatar market where most competitors require upfront payment even for a preview. It’s a low-commitment way to evaluate the output.
- A single selfie is sufficient. Unlike other services that ask for multiple angles, FiveShots can generate a variety of professional looks from one image, saving you time and effort, especially if you don't have a high-quality photo to spare. The process takes just a few minutes from upload to preview.
- Mobile apps for both iOS and Android let you create headshots on the go. This is handy for last-minute profile updates or if you prefer to shoot your selfie with your phone's camera and immediately process it. The app interface is clean and easy to navigate.
- The output images are in standard professional formats, suitable for LinkedIn, company websites, and other online profiles. The AI removes backgrounds and adjusts lighting to create a consistent, polished look, which is ideal for updating your personal brand across multiple platforms.
- Quick turnaround is a major plus. In a matter of minutes, you can have a set of headshots to choose from, compared to days you might wait for a photographer’s edits. For busy professionals, this speed is a significant benefit.
⚠ Watch out for
- The free tier is limited; downloading high-resolution or watermark-free images requires in-app purchase. While it's fair to charge for the final product, the lack of full-quality free downloads means you'll likely have to pay to use the images professionally, which might feel like a bait-and-switch if you expected complete free access.
- Output quality is heavily dependent on the input selfie. If your selfie is poorly lit, has harsh shadows, or is taken at an extreme angle, the AI can produce distorted facial features or unnatural skin textures. This means you might need to reshoot your selfie multiple times to get a good result, which can be frustrating.
- There are no bulk upload or team management features. This makes it inconvenient for companies that need to create headshots for dozens or hundreds of employees. You'll have to process each employee individually, which is time-consuming and lacks the efficiency that a team admin portal would provide.
- Privacy concerns are inherent to AI headshot services. You're uploading a biometric image to a third-party server, and the data handling practices aren't transparently documented on the website. For privacy-conscious users, this could be a dealbreaker.
🎯 Best for
Individuals and freelancers who need a quick, free professional headshot for online profiles and are willing to accept some quality trade-offs.
🚫 Who should skip
Professionals who require extremely high-quality, retouched headshots (e.g., corporate C-suite, acting portfolios) or need to produce multiple consistent headshots for a team without paying.
📚 Learning curve
Minimal – the app is straightforward: upload a selfie, wait a minute, and select/download your headshots.
🧑⚖️ Verdict
FiveShots.app is a solid, budget-friendly option for individuals and remote team members needing a professional headshot quickly, especially if you value the free trial and mobile convenience. However, if you require team management, bulk processing, or have strict privacy requirements, you should l

📋 Assessment
💪 Strengths
- Completely free with no sign-up required — this is the biggest win. You land on the page, and you can start creating immediately. There's no email gating, no trial period, no feature paywall. For a casual user who just wants a slightly personalized profile picture, this eliminates all friction.
- The avatar style perfectly matches Notion's minimalist line art. The faces, hair, and accessories use the same thick, rounded strokes and limited color palette that Notion uses in its illustrations. This is a huge time-saver for anyone who wants a profile picture that feels native to the platform.
- The drag-and-drop interface is intuitive. You pick a face base, then drag hair, eyes, glasses, and accessories onto the canvas. It's playful and requires zero design experience. Even a grandparent can do it.
- Good variety of pre-made parts. While you can't customize colors, there are enough skin tones, hair styles (including curly, straight, afro, and bold colors like pink and blue), and cute props (coffee, plant, laptop) to create a recognizably 'you' avatar. It's surprisingly expressive given the constraints.
- Fast output — you can go from blank canvas to a finished, downloadable avatar in two minutes. The download is a transparent PNG, which is perfect for overlaying on various platforms.
⚠ Watch out for
- The customization is heavily limited. You cannot adjust color saturation, brightness, or use a color picker. You're stuck with the preset palette, which may not exactly match your skin tone or brand color. Also, you cannot modify the stroke width or add your own text or shapes.
- There is no save or export project feature. The tool doesn't store your design, so if you accidentally close the tab, you lose everything. You must take a screenshot or export the PNG, but you can't come back to tweak it later. This makes it impossible to iterate or create a series of consistent avatars.
- The output resolution is very low. The downloaded PNG is tiny (likely 512x512 pixels or less), which looks fine in a small profile picture but becomes pixelated if used in a presentation, on a large banner, or printed. For professional branding, this is a dealbreaker.
- There's no option to upload custom backgrounds or elements. You're confined to the tool's library, which, while varied, is finite. Advanced users will find the limitations frustrating.
- Support is essentially non-existent. There's no help center, no contact form, no FAQ. If you encounter a bug or have a question, you're on your own. For a free tool, this is expected, but worth noting.
🎯 Best for
Individuals looking for a quick, free way to create a cute Notion-style avatar for their personal profile in Notion or similar platforms.
🚫 Who should skip
Users who need high-resolution images, advanced customization (e.g., exact colors, poses), or commercial-grade avatars for branding.
📚 Learning curve
Minimal – it's a straightforward visual editor with a few options, usable by anyone immediately.
🧑⚖️ Verdict
Notion Avatar Maker is perfect for Notion users who want a quick, free, and charming profile picture that matches the platform's aesthetic. However, if you need high-resolution output, deep customization, or the ability to save and edit your designs, it will frustrate you. For its niche, it's a deli
