📋 Assessment
💪 Strengths
- Stunning and intuitive interface: Copilot's design is genuinely a pleasure to use. The clean layout, colorful charts, and smooth animations make financial management feel less like a chore and more like a premium app experience. Navigating between transactions, budgets, and investments is effortless, and the visual presentation of data is both informative and aesthetically pleasing. This design quality is a significant factor in user engagement and consistency.
- Smart transaction categorization: Copilot uses machine learning to automatically categorize transactions, and it improves over time by learning from user corrections. This means that after a few weeks, the vast majority of transactions are sorted correctly without manual input. This feature saves hours of time each month and reduces the friction that often leads people to abandon budgeting apps.
- Recurring transaction detection: The app automatically identifies subscriptions, bills, and other recurring charges. It groups them by frequency and shows a timeline, making it easy to spot price hikes or unwanted services. For example, if your streaming service fee increases, Copilot alerts you to the change. This proactive monitoring is a powerful tool for cutting unnecessary expenses.
- Investment tracking included: Unlike many budgeting apps that focus only on checking and savings, Copilot integrates investment accounts, showing your portfolio's performance, asset allocation, and how it contributes to your net worth. This gives a comprehensive view of your finances in one place, appealing to users who want to monitor their entire financial picture without juggling multiple apps.
- Great family budgeting features: Users can create shared spaces to manage household finances. This allows couples to combine budgets, track shared expenses, and see each other's transactions if desired. The collaborative features are well-implemented, making it a practical choice for families or partners who want to manage money together.
⚠ Watch out for
- Apple-only ecosystem: Copilot is exclusively available on iOS and macOS. There is no Android, Windows, or web app, which is a major drawback for users who don't use Apple devices or prefer to access their finances from a desktop browser. This limits its appeal to a significant portion of the market and forces non-Apple users to look elsewhere.
- Expensive pricing: At $13 per month or $95 per year, Copilot is one of the pricier budgeting apps on the market. While it offers a 30-day free trial, there is no free tier, and the cost may be prohibitive for users accustomed to free tools like Mint (now defunct) or basic bank app features. For budget-conscious consumers, the value proposition might not justify the subscription fee.
- No web dashboard: Even for Apple users, the lack of a web-based dashboard is a limitation. If you're away from your Mac or iPhone, you can't quickly check your finances from a computer. Competitors like Monarch or YNAB offer web access, which can be more convenient for detailed planning or data entry, and Copilot's absence may be a dealbreaker for some.
- Bank connection glitches: Some users report issues with bank account syncing, especially with smaller or international banks. Connections sometimes fail or lag, requiring manual refresh or re-authentication. While this is common among budgeting apps that rely on third-party aggregators like Plaid, it can still be frustrating, particularly for users with less common financial institutions.
🎯 Best for
Apple ecosystem users who want a premium, automated budgeting app with smart categorization and investment tracking without manually entering transactions.
🚫 Who should skip
Android or Windows users, people who need a free budgeting app, and those who prefer a more manual, discipline-focused budgeting system like YNAB should skip Copilot.
📚 Learning curve
Minimal. The app is well-designed and easy to navigate, though you'll need a few minutes to connect accounts and set up budgets.
🧑⚖️ Verdict
Copilot Money is an excellent choice for Apple users who value a beautifully designed, intelligent budgeting app and are willing to pay for the premium experience. It's particularly strong for tracking subscriptions and investments. However, if you need cross-platform access or prefer a free tool, l

📋 Assessment
💪 Strengths
- Generous free tier: The free version includes core budgeting, multi-currency accounts, and transaction tracking, which is rare among budgeting apps. Many users can manage their finances effectively without paying, making it accessible for students or those new to budgeting.
- Multi-currency support: Real-time exchange rates and the ability to hold multiple currencies in one account make it invaluable for expats, travelers, and international families. You can track spending in your home currency while living abroad, avoiding manual conversion errors.
- Bank sync in CEE and major EU/US banks: Strong connectivity with banks in Central and Eastern Europe, plus support for major EU and US banks via aggregators, allows for automated transaction imports. This saves time and reduces manual entry errors.
- Customizable categories and reports: Wallet offers granular category customization, subcategories, and detailed spending reports that help users identify spending patterns. The ability to set budgets per category and track progress is straightforward and visual.
- Family sharing (premium): For a household, the premium family plan allows multiple users to sync and share accounts, making it easier to manage shared expenses. This is a practical feature for couples or families who want joint budgeting.
⚠ Watch out for
- Bank sync reliability: For less common banks, the sync can be unreliable, requiring frequent reconnections or manual imports. This can be frustrating and time-consuming, undermining the automation benefit.
- Advanced features paywalled: Key features like family sharing, unlimited accounts, and API access are only available in Premium. This might feel restrictive for users who want to try these features before committing.
- No envelope budgeting: The app does not support zero-based budgeting or envelope methodology, which is a deal-breaker for users who prefer allocating every dollar to a specific purpose, as YNAB does.
- Customer support response times: Support is primarily via email, and response times can be slow, especially during peak periods. There is no live chat or phone support, which can be inconvenient for urgent issues.
- Onboarding can be overwhelming: New users might find the initial setup daunting due to the many customization options and settings. The learning curve is steeper than simpler apps like Mint, which may deter non-technical users.
🎯 Best for
Budget-conscious individuals and families in Europe, especially those with multi-currency income or expenses, who want bank sync and a free-to-start budgeting app.
🚫 Who should skip
Investors who need detailed portfolio tracking or users who require proactive zero-based budgeting methods like YNAB.
📚 Learning curve
Minimal — you can start adding transactions and creating budgets within minutes; the interface is straightforward, though advanced features take a bit of exploration.
🧑⚖️ Verdict
Wallet by BudgetBakers is an excellent choice for expats, international families, and budget-conscious users who need robust multi-currency support and a generous free tier. However, if you require envelope budgeting or have a less common bank, you might be better served by alternatives like YNAB or
